A New Member from the Philippines Joined the Global Taskforce for Youth Combatants

November 14, 2024 –We are delighted to announce that a new member from the Philippines has joined the Global Taskforce for Youth Combatants.

Ms. Nahara is a returnee from a non-state armed group in the Philippines. She was recruited to the group through preaching in Marawi City when she was a 19-year-old university student and later married one of the group's sub-leaders.

Drawing from her firsthand experience with a non-state armed group, Ms. Nahara has now set her goal of becoming a lawyer and peace advocate. She is determined to leverage her unique background to help build a more peaceful and harmonious future for all.

“I am truly honored to be part of the Global Taskforce for Youth Combatants (GTY), as it provides a platform that gives me an opportunity to represent the voices of youth and women in the Philippines, especially those who have once been involved in non-state armed groups. We are often seen through a limited lens, but in reality, I believe we possess immense potential when given a chance to grow and develop as peacebuilders. With the right support, we can rise as peace champions, showing the world that transformation is possible.

The journey toward a peaceful future may be challenging, but together, we can instill hope and we can help create lasting positive change. Through GTY, we can prove that our past does not define us; instead, it fuels our commitment to a brighter tomorrow for all. As one platform, let's commit to this journey together, geared towards creating more awareness that when young people are given the right opportunity, we can become strong advocates for change, creating a world filled with hope and limitless possibilities for ourselves and for future generations, in shaa Allāh (If God wills it)”
